Boat excursions in the Bibione lagoon with Captain Igloo - Family excursion to the lagoon and the Casoni
Today, we hopped on board a boat to explore the lagoon. Our guide is Captain Igloo, a friendly, extroverted and resourceful sailor with many anecdotes to tell. He’s waiting for us on his 20-person boat docked, as always, outside the Ai Casoni restaurant.
We get on board with our children aged 2, 5 and 10 and arrange to take a trip towards the beautiful Brussa pinewood and the distinctive Casoni, crossing the canals of the third basin.
We set sail at around 11:30 am and shortly after 20 minutes of sailing on the calm waters of the Bibione lagoon, we reach the free beach of La Brussa.
La Brussa is a beach with soft, golden sand located in the Valle Vecchia lagoon oasis.
It is a magical, uncontaminated location surrounded by long sand dunes which separate it from a green pinewood.
We go for a swim in the clean, transparent water with shallow seabeds where the children splash around safely. If you aren't fond of boat rides, you can also reach this corner of paradise by car, but the journey requires a little more time (it's about 35 km from Bibione).
In the blink of an eye, it's time for lunch. We choose to eat at Ristorante Mazarack, famous for its fish, but which also offers delicious meat dishes or even simply the possibility to have a drink to cool down on the hot, summer days.
Here everything is tailored to children: in the outdoor area, there are some games, swings, a slide, an area dedicated to little ones protected by a gate and in the restroom there is a changing table available.
After a delicious lunch and with our bellies full, we make our way back on board and head up the canals of the Terzo Bacino heading towards the fishermen's houses. While sailing, besides the incredible vegetation which comprises tamerisks, reeds, and many plants of heather in bloom, we come across families of swans and an abundance of seagulls, ducklings, mallards, small herons and coots. Needless to say, the children enjoy getting to see so many different animals.
Towards 4 pm we return to our starting point, happy to have enjoyed a different kind of day, immersed in the silence of nature, exploring the corners of Bibione we never thought could be so peculiar. Despite the fact it is a very hot day and the time we have chosen is quite trying (departure at 11:30 am returning at 4 pm), none of us felt the heat too much, thanks to the light breeze and a very big overhand covering almost the entirety of the boat.
We thoroughly enjoy this experience and highly recommend it to everybody, even to people who suffer from seasickness, because the boat moves at such a slow pace and the water is practically still, as the canals are completely protected by the vegetation along the sides.
